andMr. Creed asked the Minister for Defence if he will explain the circumstances under which certain privileges were withdrawn from an Army officer (details supplied) following comments he made in public following the death of three children in the Glen-of-Imaal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: The person in question is not a serving Army officer but a retired Army officer. Following certain comments made by him in public relating to Army matters, the military authorities decided, in the interests of security, that (1) his associate membership of the Officers Mess, Cathal Brugha Barracks, should be withdrawn and (2) that he should no longer be permitted to enter McKee Barracks.
As the military authorities are acting within their competence in making this decision, I cannot intervene in the matter.
