Vol. 323 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Petrol Tanker Dispute .

9.

asked the Minister for Justice the total cost to public funds of the Garda intervention in the petrol tanker dispute; and whether he intends recouping this money from the oil companies.

: There was no Garda intervention in this dispute. The only Garda role in the matter was the normal one of maintaining law and order and in the circumstances the question of recouping the cost of the duties involved does not arise.

: At the risk of being told that this is a separate question, would it be fair to ask the Minister if there is any proposal for endeavouring to recoup the money involved by way of the cost to public funds of the Army intervention in the dispute?

: I understand that that position is being examined. However, the question is not one for me.

: Is it being examined with a view to possible recoupment?

: It is not a matter for this Minister.
