: I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 453 of 20 February last in which the numbers of special exemption orders granted in each of the years 1975 to 1979 were given. Particulars of the number of special exemption orders granted during the year ended 31 July 1980 are being compiled and I will forward them to the Deputy as soon as they become available.
: Could the Minister give the figures for the different years?
: For the year ended 31 July 1975 there were 22,213 special exemption orders; for the year ended 31 July 1976, there were 26,197 special exemption orders; for the year ended 31 July 1977, there were 32,815; 31 July 1978, 34,846; and 31 July 1979, 42,111.
: Is the Minister concerned that there is a doubling of the number of exemptions between 1975 and 1979 or has he given the matter any consideration?
: I can assure the Deputy that there is very serious concern and the matter is being given consideration. The position is being examined at present.
: Does the Minister accept that in the case of intoxicating liquor a price of five shillings is completely out of date? I suggest to him that there should be arrangements made in relation to annual functions for organisations and that the present procedure is being abused all over the country?
: As I have already said, this area is being examined by me and when I have concluded that examination I intend to bring legislation to the House.
: I ask the Minister to have that examination completed as soon as possible bearing in mind the urgency of the situation, the problems associated with this late night drinking and the evidence which is before the House.
: As soon as all the necessary examination work has been done I will be in a position——

: I have the figures, but there is much more involved in this area than mere figures.
