The telephone number of my Department's main headquarters building at Aras Mhic Dhiarmada has 40 incoming and 20 outgoing exchange lines. There are five full-time telephonists working at the switchboard which is the optimum number for that type of switchboard; and the number of lines it services. I am satisfied with the conditions under which the telephonists work.
I am aware of the difficulties in getting a call through to 786444. The provision of additional lines, which would greatly improve the situation, is not possible at present due to the lack of cabling for telephone lines in the vicinity of Aéras Mhic Dhiarmada. The provision of a new telephone switchboard specifically designed for my Department's increasing needs has been agreed with the Department of Posts and Telegraphs and it is expected to be installed in mid 1982.
I am satisfied with the level of telephone call answering provided by my Department's staff in Aras Mhic Dhiarmada.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the severe hardship involved for residents of Fortlawn Estate, Clonsilla, County Dublin because there is no public telephone in or near the estate; if, in the circumstances, he will arrange for the provision of a public telephone in the immediate future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
A telephone kiosk will be provided at Fortlawn Estate early in 1981.
