asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that parents in the Clane area of County Kildare have expressed a preference for a community school in their area; if he agrees with their choice; the date by which he intends to have the new school operational; if he is aware that a site for such a school is available without charge to the Department; and if, in these circumstances, he will waive the normal local contribution.

The situation arising from the decision of the Presentation Sisters not to proceed with the building of a new secondary school in Clane is being considered actively by my Department. The views of the relevant interested local parties will receive full consideration in this regard.
The amount of a local contribution payable by the trustees in the case of a community school may be assessed with due regard to the value of a site made available free by them for the purpose.
