Vol. 324 No. 7

Written Answers. - FCA Social Welfare Contributions.

339.

asked the Minister for Defence why social welfare contributions were not paid by his Department on behalf of full time members of the FCA and in particular in respect of one member (details supplied) in County Westmeath who served in the Defence Forces.

Prior to the year 1974 social welfare contributions were not payable by officers of the FCA whose rate of pay exceeded a specified income limit nor were they payable in respect of periods of service not exceeding 21 consecutive days. From 1974 the income limit was abolished. No contributions were payable in respect of the FCA officer concerned prior to 1974, as his rate of pay exceeded the specified income limit. From 1974 the appropriate deductions were made from his pay in respect of social welfare contributions.
