Vol. 327 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork Apprentices.

313.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of AnCO registered apprentices in South West Cork; and if he will give details of the different training courses being pursued by them.

The reply is as follows:

1. Schedule A (attached) shows the total registered apprentice population at 31 December 1980 by major trade group, broken down for Cork city and Cork county. To provide specific information in relation to South West Cork would require a detailed analysis of the records of these apprentices which would be very time-consuming and too expensive to justify.

2. Schedule B (attached) shows the total number of registered apprentices, broken down by major trade group attending off the job, day and block release courses in Cork county and city. Figures for day release attendance are provided by the various colleges concerned at the end of each academic year, consequently the figure for attendance at current day release courses is estimated at 700.

3. A small number of apprentices registered in Cork (city and county) would also attend specialised educational release courses at the Carlow Regional Technical College (instrumentation), the Sligo Regional Technical College (toolmaking) and the Tralee Regional Technical College (agricultural mechanics and shipwrights).
