Vol. 328 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Disabled Person's Allowance.

394.

asked the Minister for Health why a disabled person (details supplied) in County Dublin only being paid £4.00 per week when persons in similar positions are apparently being paid £5.06 per week.

In the case referred to by the Deputy, the health board are at present paying £6 per day towards his maintenance and £2.50 per week spending allowance. The latter will be increased to £4 per week as from 1 April 1981. The health board are not aware of persons in similar positions being paid £5.06 per week spending allowance.

In the 1981 Budget I made provision for an increase in the weekly spending allowance for physically and mentally handicapped persons in long-term residential care. The increase will raise the average allowance from £2.50 a week to £4 a week with effect from 1 April 1981.
