Vol. 328 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits

445.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of an application for a free travel allowance by a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and if he will give special consideration to this application.

As the person concerned satisfies the qualifying conditions of the free travel scheme, a free travel pass has been issued to her.

446.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the position with regard to the application of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin for a refund of insurance contributions; and if he will provide a report on the situation.

The person concerned claimed a refund of social insurance contributions in respect of the period since she attained the age of 66 years on 25 November 1976. However, at that date the pensionable age for social welfare purposes was 67 years and contributions were properly payable in respect of her employment up to 3 October 1977, when pensionable age was reduced to 66 years. The value of the employee's portion of the contributions paid in respect of her from 3 October 1977 until 25 June 1979, the date of the last contribution paid, was £155.99 and this amount has been refunded to her.

447.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reasons occupational injury and disability benefits have not been paid for more than eight weeks to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will take steps to resolve the matter.

The person concerned claimed occupational disablement benefit on 2 February 1981 in respect of disablement due to an accident at work on 19 March 1980.

Following an examination by a medical referee of my Department on 26 February 1981, disablement was assessed provisionally at 10 per cent in respect of the period from 2 November 1980 to 1 November 1982. Disablement benefit was accordingly allowed on this basis and payment by a lump sum gratuity was made on 6 April 1981.

As indicated in reply to a previous question on 31 March 1981, he has been paid all disability benefit and pay-related benefit due from 5 February, the fourth day of incapacity to 7 March 1981 when he was certified fit to resume work.

There was no undue delay in the payment of benefit in this case.
