Fishing co-operatives in the areas designated under EEC Directive 75/272/EEC which are involved in the marketing and/or processing of fish are eligible for assistance under the electrification scheme which forms part of the EEC package of measures to promote the development of agriculture in the west of Ireland. The benefits available include provision of new electricity supply and augmentation of existing electricity supply.
Beneficiaries are required to pay 20 per cent approximately of the cost of the work involved. Application forms for assistance are available at local ESB offices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if groups or individuals, who have not to date availed themselves of ESB grants in respect of the installation of rural electrification, can benefit from the recently announced FEOGA electrification scheme.
The FEOGA electrification scheme applies to that part of the west of Ireland designated disadvantaged under EEC Directive 75/272/EEC, as amended, comprising the counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Monaghan, Longford, Cavan, Roscommon, Clare, Kerry and parts of west Cork and west Limerick. The scheme provides aid for the following services to farms and villages whose inhabitants are principally dependent on agriculture, including those who have not availed of grants to date for installation of rural electrification: (a) provision of electricity supply; (b) increased supply; (c) three phase supply.
Aid amounting to approximately 80 per cent of the capital cost is available to successful applicants.
