Vol. 330 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon County Hospital.

16.

asked the Minister for Health the present position in relation to consultants for the maternity wing of Roscommon County Hospital.

The posts of obstetrician/gynaecologist, paediatrician and radiologist are currently with the Local Appointments Commissioners who have the responsibility for making recommendations for the filling of the posts.

Will the Minister give me an assurance now that she will provide the funds necessary to allow these positions to be filled? Is she further aware of the long hard fight I had to put in to get these appointments made? I spent four years trying to get these situations filled. The former Minister provided £50,000 to finance these appointments.

This is a matter for the Local Appointments Commission and, when we hear from the Local Appointments Commissions, we will talk about it again.

Surely the Minister can give me some assurance. I will not be allowed to table this question again for quite some time. Will the Minister tell me now that she will provide the funds to permit these appointments to be made? With respect, the Minister is avoiding a great many of these questions today.

Could I ask the Minister to assure the House these appointments will not be held up by the present embargo?

I would hope that appointments of this nature would not be held up.
