Vol. 330 No. 9

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

527.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the present position in relation to industrial development at Ballyshannon, County Donegal.

A German project to manufacture rubber components will commence production early in 1982 in the former Donegal International Machines factory at Ballyshannon. The project will create 70 new jobs at full production.

The IDA own a 24,000 sq. ft. advance factory and 17 acres of land in Ballyshannon and these are being vigorously promoted for industrial development.

528.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy when work will commence on the industry for the IDA factory at Clara, County Offaly which was announced by the former Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism in June 1981.

I understand that planning permission has only recently been received for certain building modifications required to be carried out in the factory for the new project referred to by the Deputy.

I also understand that work on these modifications will commence shortly and that production at the plant is expected to commence in March 1982.

529.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the progress being made to locate an industry in the industrial bay at Newport. County Tipperary.

I am informed that, despite the intensive efforts of the Shannon Free Airport Development Company, a project has not yet been secured for the 1,000 sq. ft. factory at Newport referred to by the Deputy. These efforts are continuing.

The Shannon Free Airport Development Company is making every effort to secure industrial occupancy of the 1,000 sq. ft. factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the progress being made in locating much needed industries at Thurles, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that grant assistance has been approved during the past 2 years for the expansion of 3 firms in Thurles which will result in the creation of an additional 200 jobs. The IDA has recently acquired a 76 acre site in Thurles. In addition the IDA is attempting to find industrial tenants for 2 completed units totalling 37,500 sq. ft. All these facilities are being vigorously promoted for suitable industrial projects.

The Shannon Free Airport Development Co. Ltd. is in the early stages of negotiation with a number of promoters interested in establishing small industries in Thurles.
