Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

538.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a reconstruction grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

Under the Housing Regulations, 1980, this grant cannot be paid unless and until it is established that on or before 21 January 1980, the works had commenced, a contract for carrying out the works had been entered into, or the necessary materials had been purchased. In this case the applicant indicated on the application form that work did not commence until after this date and he has been requested on two occasions to furnish evidence that the requirement has been fulfilled in relation to the existence of a contract or the purchase of materials. To date, he has not responded to these requests.

There is no record of the receipt of a new house grant application from the person named. A house improvement grant application was, however, received from the person in question but as the work was not completed on or before 30 June 1981 as was statutorily required, the grant cannot now be paid.
