Vol. 330 No. 9

Written Answers. - New Schools.

647.

asked the Minister for Education if he is in a position to give any information on the building of the proposed new school at Ballyclough, Mallow, County Cork.

It is proposed to build a new school comprising four classrooms plus general purposes room at Ballyclough. County Cork, and the sketch-plans have been prepared and approved. A grant will be sanctioned towards the cost of the school when satisfactory title to the site has been established. I understand that evidence of title is likely to be submitted to my Department at an early date.

The next further stage of planning is the preparation of working drawings and this stage may be initiated only after a grant has been sanctioned.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to the new school proposed for Barnesmore, County Donegal; and the proposals his Department have for repairs to the existing school.

Sketch-plans for the proposed new school at Barnesmore, County Donegal, have been prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. The accommodation to be provided will be four classrooms and a general purposes room. A grant towards the cost of the project cannot be sanctioned until satisfactory title to the site has been established. My Department first requested evidence of title in April 1978. Title documents were submitted at the end of September 1980, but proved to be unsatisfactory. The Chief State Solicitor reported in May 1981 that the title as submitted by the chairman's solicitor was not satisfactory and that he had written to the chairman's solicitor regarding the matter. It has been ascertained from the Chief State Solicitor that as at 5 November 1981 he is still awaiting a reply. He will write to the chairman's solicitor again shortly.

When good title is established a grant will be sanctioned. The further arrangements for erecting the school, which will be carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works, include the preparation of working drawings and bills of quantities leading up to the invitation of tenders. My Department are in communication with the reverend chairman of the board of management concerning repairs to the existing school.
