Vol. 330 No. 10

Written Answers. - School Transport.

311.

asked the Minister for Education if he will restore the school bus service in the Lettercallon area, Lettermore, County Galway, as children are now obliged to walk four miles to the pick-up point.

Under the terms of the school transport scheme the routes of special services to post-primary centres are organised in such a way as to ensure that no pupil has more than three miles to travel to a route. In order to establish or maintain a route, or a spur operating to a route, it would be necessary that there be a minimum of seven eligible pupils living three miles or more from a centre or a service route. These conditions are not fulfilled at present in relation to the area referred to by the Deputy. According to my information, no pupil involved has to walk a distance of three miles or more to the service route.
