Vol. 330 No. 10

Resignations and Appointments of Ministers of State.

A Cheann Comhairle, B'áil liom cead a fháil chun a chur in iúl mar eolas don Dáil, go bhfuil an Rialtas inniu tar éis (1) glacadh le tairiscintí an Teachta Gearóid Ó Stráinse d'éirí as oifig mar Aire Stáit ag Roinn an Taoisigh agus ag an Roinn Cosanta, an Teachta Domnaill Ó Criod d'éirí as oifig mar Aire Stáit ag an Roinn Sláinte agus an Teachta Fearghas Ó Briain d'éirí as oifig mar Aire Stáit ag an Roinn Comhshaoil; agus (2) an Teachta Gearóid Ó Stráinse a cheapadh mar Aire Stáit ag an Roinn Sláinte, an Teachta Domnaill O Criod a cheapadh mar Aire Stáit ag an Roinn Comhshaoil agus an Teachta Fearghas Ó Briain a cheapadh mar Aire Stáit ag Roinn an Taoisigh agus ag an Roinn Cosanta.

A Cheann Comhairle, I beg leave to announce, for the information of the Dáil, that the Government today (1) accepted the resignations of Deputy Gerald L'Estrange from office as Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Defence, Deputy Donal Creed from office as Minister of State at the Department of Health and Deputy Fergus O'Brien, from office as Minister of State at the Department of the Environment; and (2) appointed Deputy Gerald L'Estrange to be Minister of State at the Department of Health, Deputy Donal Creed to be Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Deputy Fergus O'Brien to be Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Defence.

I just want to say we will regret the departure of Deputy L'Estrange from the office of Chief Whip in which he was always courteous, obliging and helpful. We intend to extend the same courtesy to his successor, I cannot resist the opportunity to say the Taoiseach might consider, at this stage when he is making the changes, changing some of his more unsuccessful Ministers as well.

When will the Deputy announce his front bench? He has not sorted out the boys yet.

It is always wise to resist temptation.
