As the applicant had a means of providing domestic hot water by way of a solid fuel appliance prior to the installation of the back boiler for which a grant was sought, his application had to be refused. He was informed accordingly on 19 June 1980.

A maximum house improvement grant of £600 was paid in this case on 16 January 1980. A special grant to reduce dependence on oil was paid on 26 February 1981. Following an appeal against the amount of this grant, a supplementary grant of £93 was paid on 4 September 1981.

Under the Housing Regulations, 1980, as amended, to qualify for payment of a house improvement grant, it was necessary for all the relevant works to be satisfactorily completed on or before 30 June 1981. As this statutory requirement was not fulfilled in this case payment of the grant may not now be made.
