Vol. 330 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dublin Street Harassment.

622.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the harassment that is being encountered by customers, suppliers and all other persons who make business calls to a firm in Seville Place, Dublin and of the damage young people are causing to their vehicles; and the action he intends to take in respect of such harassment.

I am aware that a number of complaints of this nature have been made on behalf of a particular firm in the area.

Garda investigations and observations do not confirm that the position is as stated in the complaints but the Garda accept that the management and employees of the firm in question have a problem arising from the fact that large numbers of young people in the area tend to play near the premises, even though playgrounds have been provided by the corporation, and that his causes annoyance apart from the fact that there have been some incidents of vandalism and larceny from vehicles at various times.

I am informed by the Garda that special Garda attention has been and is being given to Seville Place and the business premises there. There is a concentrated patrolling of the area by uniformed foot patrol. In addition, the area is also patrolled by the district motorcyclists from Store Street and Fitzgibbon Street stations and by patrol cars and vans from Store Street station. The Garda will continue to make every effort to deal with problems in the area.
