The Commissioners of Public Works have no plans to develop Carrickarory Pier.
Is the Minister aware that the development of this pier is very necessary for the people of Inishowen? Would he agree, in conjunction with the harbour commissioners in Derry who own the pier, to finance a scheme for the development of this pier?
The Carrickarory pier is managed and maintained by the Derry Port and Harbour Commissioners. Development proposals would be a matter for the harbour commissioners. The Commissioners of Public Works have received no proposals to develop the Carrickarory Pier.
Is the Minister aware that the Harbour Commissioners in Derry carried out some minor repairs to the harbour? In view of the fact that no funds were provided by the Minister's Department would he not consider that we have a responsibility to give some assistance to the harbour commissioners and that there should be a joint plan in a cross-Border context?
The only way the Commissioners of Public Works could become involved with a pier which is maintained and managed by the Derry Port and Harbour Commissioners is by way of a request from those commissioners to carry out work for them.
