The finances allocated in 1981 for youth and sport are as follows—1. Grants to youth and sport organisations and activities, £1,400,000; 2. Allocation to VECs to assist local youth and sports activities, £492,000; 3. Temporary grant scheme for youth employment, £800,000; 4. Development officer scheme, £420,000.
The level of grants for such schemes in 1982 will be determined in connection with decisions on the Estimates for Public Services for 1982.
I recently announced a scheme of grant aid towards the implementation of a community, youth, recreational and employment programme. A sum in excess of £4 million has been allocated from the Employment Guarantee Fund towards this programme, which is concerned with the construction of recreational facilities.
It is open to all interested groups and organisations, including individual youth clubs, to apply for assistance under this scheme. Official application forms and details of the scheme may be obtained from my Department.
Until applications have been received and examined, I shall not be in a position to say which projects may be grant-aided. The latest date for receipt of completed application forms is Monday 30 November 1981.
