Vol. 331 No. 6

Written Answers - Galway Local Authority Houses.

476.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he approves the construction of 200 new local authority houses per annum by Galway Corporation; and if he will give details of the location of such housing schemes to be built over the next five years.

Galway Corporation have submitted a five-year programme for the construction of an average of 168 dwellings per year for the period 1980-1984. No details of the location of the proposed schemes have been shown on the programme.

The planning, initiation and location of local authority housing schemes is a matter for each local authority. The number of dwellings which will be constructed by Galway Corporation in 1982 and subsequent years will depend on the level of the capital allocations which will be made in these years for their housing programme. The allocations will be determined at the time in the context of the overall provision in the public capital programme for each year and with regard also to the relative scale and urgency of the need in the corporation's area and elsewhere in the country.
