An ACOT survey reports that there are about 600 applicants in North Kerry for payments under the 1981 silage incentive scheme. Approximately 300 of these have so far been received in my Department and they will be paid over the next few weeks. The remainder will be paid as soon as possible after they are received in my Department.

The applicant is classified as a development farmer and is therefore required to keep farm accounts for each year of his plan. Payment of the grant cannot be made until the applicant furnishes evidence that he is complying with this requirement.

Payment of the headage grant in question will be made to the person named in the next few weeks.

The person named was ineligible to participate in the 1980 scheme of premiums for maintaining suckler cows as he did not satisfy the conditions of the scheme which required that applicants earn at least 50 per cent of their total income from farming.
The question of his eligibility to receive a premium under the 1981 scheme is at present being examined by my Department and will be determined when details of his farm and off-farm earnings for the income tax year ended 5 April 1981 have been received.
