Vol. 331 No. 11

Written Answers. - Trade with Cuba.

311.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the increased trade with Cuba, there are any plans for diplomatic relations with that country; and, if not, the trade delegations being exchanged.

Minister for Foreign Affairs (Professor Dooge)

There are no plans to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba. There have been no official trade delegations to Cuba in recent years and none is planned at the moment. Our resources, including those of Córas Tráchtála and other export agencies, must be concentrated on markets of greater priority. An Bord Bainne monitors the Cuban market for dairy products which account for the great majority of our exports to Cuba and makes visits there as required.
