Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Business Estates.

298.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the progress, if any, that has been made in the provision of business estates; if any expenditure has been incurred on any estate to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

299.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he will have a business estate located at Ennis, County Clare; and the reason for the failure to include Ennis in the original list of locations announced by him on 15 September 1981.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 298 and 299 together.

I am informed that the Industrial Development Authority are at present acquiring sites for business development centres in the ten locations details of which were originally announced in May 1981. The only expenditure to date has been in respect of refundable deposits.

The initial ten locations were based on the IDA's assessment of their suitability for the location of international service industry projects and the need to ensure the widest possible regional dispersal. In this regard, Limerick has been chosen as the initial location in the mid-west region.

I would add that Ennis will benefit from the promotion of the Shannon Industrial Estate as a base for international service industries through the recent extension of the 10 per cent manufacturing tax to new service projects which will contribute to the development of the airport.

300.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the total paid in grant-aid towards industrial development in County Leitrim in each year since 1960; and the figure per capita in each of those years.

I have made arrangements for the information requested to be made available to the Deputy.
