Cavan-Monaghan): No funds are available in my Department to provide grants to persons or organisations for marine research work.
The Department, who have responsibility for national fishery research in support of the fishing industry, have, however, availed of the services of the Sherkin Island marine station to enable a specific investigation to be carried out on a fee basis.
The investigation commissioned has given rise to date to an expenditure of £3,570 from the Fisheries Vote. Should the need to do so arise in the future the Department will consider giving further commissions to the Sherkin Island marine station.
