The maritime VHF service currently being provided involves the utilisation of the existing coastal radio stations at Valentia and Malin Head, each remotely controlling two VHF stations. It is estimated that the four stations in question will give VHF coverage over extensive coastal areas in the north-west and south-west regions. It is hoped that all four remotely controlled stations will be in operation by the end of this year. The extension of coverage to other areas of the coast will then be pursued.
