asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will encourage the establishment of a cereal cleaning and grading plant at a suitable centre in the west of Ireland.
Written Answers. - West of Ireland Cereal Plant.
597.
It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the establishment of a plant to which a farmer could take his own cereal seed for cleaning and grading. As the use of farm-saved seed can contribute to the spread of wild oats and to a deterioration in seed quality it is not favoured by my Department and so the establishment of the type of plant mentioned could not be encouraged.
