Vol. 334 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mayo National School.

521.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the extension to Currabaggin national school, Knockmore, Ballina, County Mayo; and if he is aware of the urgent need to commence work shortly.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that sketch-plans for the proposed extension to Currabaggin national school, County Mayo, are in course of preparation. It is not possible at this stage to say when building work may commence.

522.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the serious overcrowding that exists at Crossmolina national school; and the steps that have been taken to provide the two extra rooms which have been requested and which are necessary to eliminate overcrowding.

My Department have agreed in principle to the extension of Crossmolina girls' primary school and have authorised the Commissioners of Public Works to prepare sketch-plans for the proposed scheme. The Reverend chairman of the board of management has been so informed and has submitted title documents relating to the site extension which have been sent to the Chief State Solicitor for approval.

523.

asked the Minister for Education when tenders will be invited for work to commence on an extension to Carn national school, Garranard, Ballina, County Mayo; and if he is aware of the desperate overcrowding that exists in the school.

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the proposed extension at Carn national school. I understand that the Commissioners of Public Works await the submission of a cost plan by the quantity surveyor. When an acceptable cost plan has been submitted, the commissioners will undertake the preparation of working drawings. It is not possible to state when tenders may be invited.
