Vol. 334 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Health Clinics.

19.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the dissatisfaction of residents in Tramore, County Waterford regarding the facilities available there for the holding of health and dental care clinics; and if he will make a statement on the provision of new clinic facilities.

The provision of a new health centre in Tramore is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board. I understand that the board consider the existing facilities in the town inadequate for the expansion and development of services. A suitable site is being sought for the purpose of constructing a new modern centre.

Can the Minister indicate when a suitable site which will be acceptable to the board will be available and serviced?

The health board are negotiating with Waterford County Council and Tramore Town Commissioners to identify a suitable site, and the board hope to proceed with the planning as soon as an acceptable site has been obtained. It is being considered as a matter of urgency and I trust that a site will be found soon which will be acceptable. I agree there has been a long delay.

There has been a very long delay and many Tramore residents are dissatisfied with the present service.

I am aware of the need, as expressed by the board, for this service.
