Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

618.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be installed for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who is being discriminated against because of the non-payment of an account by another person.

It is expected that service will be provided within about three months. The position in regard to an account at an address where she was formerly the subscriber had to be clarified before service could be offered at the new address but there was no question of discrimination against her involved.

619.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make a statement on the one-hour strike at Exchequer Street telephone exchange, Dublin, by the 800 telephonists who work there.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the unofficial stoppage of work by telephone operators at the Central Telephone Exchange, Dublin, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, 21 May 1982. The action was stated to have been taken by the staff in protest over a report on an investigation into an incident involving a telephonist and his supervisors. As the matter is still under consideration, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further.
