Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - VEC Employees.

719.

asked the Minister for Education the reason his Department refuse to allow the rationalisation of the pay and conditions of VEC employees even though they are local authority employees under the Vocational Education Act, 1930 and as all other local authority employees have rationalised pay; and if he intends taking steps to ensure that in future VEC employees will be treated in a manner similar to that of all local authority employees.

In accordance with the provisions of section 26 (2) of the Vocational Education Act, 1930, employees of vocational education committees are not local authority employees for pay purposes and their pay is determined under separate arrangements. It is understood that a formal claim for rationalisation of rates of wages in the vocational education sector may be made in the near future. If such a formal claim is received it will receive due consideration.
