Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ballyhaise (Cavan) Housing.

902.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that there is a great need for houses in Ballyhaise, County Cavan; and, if so, when he proposes to approve of the contract documents with his Department for a housing scheme there.

Under devolved procedures it is a matter for each housing authority to plan and initiate any scheme of 60 houses or less having regard to the priority of housing needs in their functional area and the capital resources available to them. Additionally, the preparation and clearance of contract documents is a matter for the housing authority. I understand that drawings and specifications for a 22-house local authority scheme at Ballyhaise have been prepared by Cavan County Council and have recently been discussed with and cleared by officials of my Department. It is expected that this scheme can go to tender shortly.
