Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Malahide (Dublin) Garda Station.

966.

asked the Minister for Justice when he intends to open Malahide Garda station, County Dublin, on a 24-hour basis and to provide a 24-hour patrol there also.

The precise arrangements for the policing of particular areas are primarily a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that they propose to open Malahide Garda station on a 24-hour basis as soon as practicable but that it would not be feasible to do so at present having regard to the current strength of the station party. The authorities are not in a position to extend the present local patrolling arrangements for the Malahide area but they say that there are of course arrangements for providing a police service for the area from the district headquarters at Coolock when the station at Malahide is closed.
