As regards the specific stations mentioned by the Deputy, the juvenile liaison officer attached to Rathfarnham station covers the Rathfarnham and Tallaght areas and the officer based at Blackrock station covers the Blackrock and Dundrum areas.
In addition to the members who act as juvenile liaison officers, there is an administrative unit at Garda Headquarters which deals full-time with the Juvenile Liaison Scheme and Garda Community Relations. The unit comprises 2 inspectors, 2 sergeants and 1 garda.
Members are selected by the Garda authorities as juvenile liaison officers on the basis of previous youth involvement and general suitability and are required to undergo a special residential training course of a month's duration covering a range of subjects relevant to the work and duties of a juvenile liaison officer. These courses are held in the Garda Training Centre, Templeogue.
