Vol. 336 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Road.

6.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to start work on the completion of the Childers road in Limerick.

I understand that work on the remaining section of this road has been in progress for about a year. Road grants in excess of £1.3 million have been allocated to the project, including £400,000 for the current year.

I understand road work is going ahead, but I asked when it would be completed.

I am unable to say when the road will be completed but the Deputy can take it there will be no undue delay. I do not want to give a date which, because of circumstances, might not be complied with.

There are no legal difficulties?

We dealt with that last week.

Would the Minister use his influence to ensure that this work is finished because this is a very important artery road in Limerick?

The Deputy can take it that I will do everything in my power to see that the work goes ahead.

Surely the Minister has information about the duration of the contract in his brief because nobody signs a contract unless the date is specified?

No, that is not in my brief.
