Vol. 336 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fire Stations Construction.

8.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the fire stations which will start construction in 1982, 1983 and 1984; and the estimated capital cost of such.

The planning and execution of fire station projects is a matter for individual fire authorities and my Department are involved only to the extent of granting approval in principle to a project, which in practice involves the approval of outline plans, and sanctioning any necessary borrowing proposals.

The information available to my Department indicates that eight new fire station projects have commenced or are likely to commence during 1982 in addition to the projects under construction at the beginning of the year. These eight stations and their estimated costs are Rathfarnham, £1 million; Phibsborough, £1.5 million; Bray, £.77 million; Killeshandra, £.1 million; Tinahely, £.22 million; Blanchardstown, £.9 million; Clonmel, phase II, £.77 million and Carrick-on-Suir, £.15 million. It is not possible at this juncture to furnish a schedule of "starts" for 1983-84 which would be in any way definitive or inclusive.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Has the Minister any information regarding the stage of the Cavan station project?

Does the Deputy mean Cavan town?

(Cavan-Monaghan): Yes.

I am sorry I am unable to give the Deputy that information as I have not got it in my brief.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Will the Minister be good enough to communicate with me on the matter?

I certainly will.
