Vol. 336 No. 6

Written Answers. - Business Establishment Aid.

475.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the training or educational courses provided under his aegis specifically to assist people in setting up a business of their own for the first time.

AnCO runs a "start your own business" programme the objective of which is to facilitate the development of small business enterprises by providing entepreneurs with specialist business and training development. The programme is undertaken in conjunction with a firm of business management consultants and is designed to provide individuals or prospective business partners with the opportunity to research systematically and test out the feasibility of their ideas, to modify these if appropriate and to plan all aspects associated with the establishment and development of a successful small business enterprise.

In 1981, 67 trainees participated in the course and of these 28 have commenced business employing a total of 119 people. AnCO proposes to organise 12 "start your own business" courses during 1982.

The Youth Employment Agency is also interested in the development of entrepreneurial skills in young persons and it has been considering proposals in the area from the Irish Productivity Centre and Youth Enterprises in Shannon.
