The training needs of officers of my Department are considered each year and the Department have a full-time training officer. A figure for the average number of days spent by officers on training courses could be misleading. Training of individual officers is based on their perceived needs. However, the number of days spent by all officers of the Department on training courses in 1981 was 835. In addition a number of officers of the Department were attending full-time courses in education in 1981. The majority were attending university degree courses.
Having regard to the resources available for training and staff development I am satisfied with the level of training being undertaken in my Department.
