Vol. 337 No. 4

Written Answers. - Management Advisory Committee.

579.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if his Department have yet established a management advisory committee in accordance with the recommendations of the Devlin Committee which were accepted by the Government in 1969; and if not, the reason.

Whilst my Department — which in the present format has operated only since 1977 — have not yet formally established such a committee a joint working party from this Department and the Department of the Public Service has recommended its setting up and the recommendations are under consideration. I should add that, under existing arrangements, the secretary and higher officers of the Department meet informally from time to time to review policy matters affecting the whole Department. In addition, in the case of the Forestry and Wildlife Service, a management review committee consisting of higher administrative and technical officers has been a feature of management for many years.
