asked the Minister for Finance the number of Garda stations built in each of the past ten years; the amount spent each year; the Garda stations under construction at present; and the Garda stations which are at planning stage or which will be built in the coming two years.

The information requested by the Deputy in regard to the number of Garda stations built and the total amount spent each year for the past ten years is given in the tabular statement hereunder:

The following stations are at present in course of construction: Athy, Co. Kildare; Ballylinan, Co. Laois; Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare; Bawnboy, Co. Cavan; Buttevant, Co. Cork; Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary; Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim; Cappoquin, Co. Waterford; Drumkeeran, Co. Leitrim; Laytown, Co. Meath; Lorrha, Co. Tipperary; Mitchelstown, Co. Cork; Moville, Co. Donegal; Rush, Co. Dublin; Terenure, Co. Dublin; Tralee, Co. Kerry.

Planning has reached an advanced stage in regard to the Stations listed hereunder: Abbeyleix, Co. Laois; Aglish, Co. Waterford; Arklow, Co. Wicklow; Ballingeary, Co. Cork; Ballycroy, Co. Mayo; Belmullet, Co. Mayo; Blackrock (Cork); Borrisoleigh, Co. Tipperary; Bridewell (Dublin)*; Cahirciveen, Co. Kerry; Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan*; Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny; Coolock, Co. Dublin*; Galway City; Gurranabraher (Cork); Garristown, Co. Dublin; Holycross, Co. Tipperary; Kilmallock, Co. Limerick; Kilrush, Co. Clare; Kilsheelan, Co. Tipperary; Lismore, Co. Waterford; Littleton, Co. Tipperary; Mayfield (Cork); Monaghan, Co. Monaghan; Oughterard, Co. Galway*; Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick; Ronanstown, Co. Dublin; Tullamore, Co. Offaly; Youghal, Co. Cork; Westport, Co. Mayo; Wicklow, Co. Wicklow.

*Adaptation and/or extension to existing building.

It is not possible to say with certainty when every stage in the preparation of contract documents in any case will be completed. The need to keep within the financial allocation for each year will determine the number of contracts to be placed in the coming two years. Priorities will be settled by the Department of Justice.
