asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism the title, function, date of establishment and budget of each non-commercial State-sponsored body under his aegis; and if the rate of increase in its budget has exceeded or been less than the rate of increase over the past five years of (a) his own Department and (b) Government expenditure generally; and, if so, by how much.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the attached tabular statement. In view of the changes in ministerial responsibilities which have taken place in relation to industry, commerce and energy in recent years, it is not possible to provide meaningful data for all years specified in the question.

Bórd Fáilte Éireann

To encourage and promote the development of tourist traffic in and to the State; to ensure that the necessary tourism infrastructure exists in Ireland; to maintain a register of hotels, guesthouses etc. and to ensure that an acceptable standard of accommodation is available; to grant-aid the development of accommodation and amenities.

Bord Fáilte was established under the Tourist Traffic Act 1955 which dissolved Fogra Fáilte (TTA 1939) and transferred its responsibilities for promotion to BFE.

Coras Trachtála

To promote, assist and develop exports; to provide an advisory, information and consultancy service to exporters covering product, package and corporate design; to advise the Minister on matters affecting or in any way connected with the development of exports; to assist architects, engineers and quantity surveyors in relation to design and planning services, work on the rendering of which is carried out in the State, in connection with engineering and constructional works executed outside the State.

1951 as a limited liability company, replaced in 1959 by a Statutory body under the Export Promotion Act 1959.

While SFADCo's tourism function is the responsibility of the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism, the Minister for Industry and Energy has overall responsibility for the company. Tourism function budget data, as requested, is set out overleaf.
