Vol. 337 No. 5

Written Answers. - Kerry Water Supplies.

790.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement in relation to the lack of water and very low water pressure in Tralee town, County Kerry, which is impeding future development in the area; and his plans to improve the situation.

The long term solution to these problems will lie in the construction of Kerry County Council's Central Regional Water Supply scheme which will take a number of years to complete. As an interim measure I have made money available under the Small Schemes Programme for the drilling of boreholes and for waste water reduction. A successful borehole capable of augmenting the Tralee town supply by approximately ¼ million gallons per day will be connected to the town system in 1982.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement in relation to the lack of water and very low water pressure in Ballybunion, County Kerry, which is impeding development in the area; and his plans to improve the situation.

The long-term solution to the water supply difficulties in Ballybunion will be the construction of Stage II of the Listowel Regional Water Supply scheme from Lisselton Cross to Ballybunion, contract documents for which are under consideration in my Department. It is accepted that this scheme will take a number of years to complete. In the interim, I have made money available under the Small Schemes Programme for the provision of a new borehole and pump to improve the existing supply in Ballybunion. This will be in operation shortly.
