Vol. 337 No. 5

Written Answers. - Impounded Vehicle.

423.

asked the Minister for Finance when the motor vehicle impounded by the Customs and Excise Section of the Revenue Commissioners from a person (details supplied) in Clondalkin, County Dublin will be returned to him.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the vehicle was being used in the State in contravention of the Motor Vehicle (Temporary Importation) Regulations, 1970 and that marked gas oil was contained in the vehicle's fuel tank in contravention of section 21 of the Finance Act, 1935. The person in question is accordingly liable to prosecution and the vehicle is liable to forfeiture. However, the Revenue Commissioners are prepared to release the vehicle for immediate exportation from the State and to refrain from ordering proceedings provided a compromise sum is paid. The person concerned is being informed accordingly.
