asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs how it is possible to provide a telephone kiosk to serve the Palmerstown area, Oldtown, County Dublin, in the vicinity of the premises of the farm of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin when it is not possible to provide an additional telephone line to serve this person's business.

Where there is a delay in provision of cabling to meet telephone applications in a particular area it is policy to provide, where this is warranted, a telephone kiosk to meet general public service needs. It is regretted that spare cable plant is not available at present to meet the needs of telephone applicants in the area concerned.

Service will be restored as soon as possible but this may take a week or so because of the large number of faults on hands.

Service has been restored. The fault was in the underground cable. Because of the number of such faults, which require attention by specially trained staff, I regret that there has been delay in repairing them.

The fault is in the underground cable. Service will be restored as soon as possible but this may take a week or so because of the large number of such faults on hands.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 464, 465 and 467, together. Clogheen is expected to be converted to automatic working towards the end of this year. It is hoped to provide automatic service at Ballyporeen and Burncourt in about 12 months or so. The subscribers at present served by Burncourt exchange will be served by Ballyporeen exchange when it is converted to automatic.

It is expected that the construction work will be completed within the next six months or so. There are six waiting applications.

There are 20 waiting applications in Clonmellon exchange area.

An extension of the overhead route in the area is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
