Vol. 339 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

686.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in paying a full rebate of income tax to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the application was made last July and as only a small portion of the rebate has been paid to date.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a refund of £332.65 in respect of the year 1981-82 was made to the taxpayer on 4 January 1983. The delay in making the refund arose due to difficulty experienced by the inspector of taxes in tracing details of the taxpayer's pay and tax deducted for the relevant year.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a cheque for £123.08, which represents the total tax deducted from the taxpayer's earnings since 6 April 1982 was issued to him on 1 December 1982.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that they have no record of a claim to repayment of tax having been made by the taxpayer during the past year.

asked the Minister for Finance when a rebate of income tax which was overpaid by a person (details supplied) in County Galway will be refunded to him.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a certificate of tax-free allowances on a non-cumulative basis for the year 1982-83 was issued to the taxpayer on 1 October 1982. The inspector has been awaiting further particulars in relation to income arising to the taxpayer prior to the commencement of his present employment in July 1982 so that a revised cumulative certificate could be issued. This information was supplied on 21 January 1983 and the revised certificate has now been sent to the taxpayer. Any tax overpaid will be refunded by the taxpayer's employer on the operation of the current certificate to tax-free allowances.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position in relation to payment of a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that they have no record of the taxpayer at the number quoted by the Deputy. However, the inspector of taxes wrote to the taxpayer on 14 December 1982 at the address supplied for the details necessary to identify his case and to deal with any repayment of tax which may be due but there has been no reply from him.
