Vol. 339 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Dublin Garda Stations.

960.

asked the Minister for Justice the plan in hand (1) to open Shankill Garda station, County Dublin on a 24-hour, seven day basis and (2) to build a new Garda station in Ballybrack, County Dublin.

Limerick East): The precise arrangements made for the policing of particular areas are primarly a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that 24-hour opening, seven days a week, was introduced at Shankill station with effect from 17 January 1983.

As regards the provision of a new Garda station in Ballybrack, the position is that the existing Garda station at Shankill has to be replaced as the accommodation there is no longer adequate and its location is not considered to be sufficiently central to the general Shankill/Ballybrack area. Accordingly, it has been decided to proceed with the acquisition of a site for a new station at Shankill Cross to serve both the Shankill and Ballybrack areas. The Office of Public Works are at present negotiating the purchase of the site, which forms part of the Dorneycourt development.
