Vol. 339 No. 4

Written Answers. - Transportation Study Documents.

393.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the document Galway Transportation Study — Eastern Approach Roads; and the time scale for the completion of this project.

The road development plan for the eighties shows that the projected time table for the provision of the main component schemes in this study runs from 1980 to 1989.

The schemes are at various stages of planning and development, as follows:—

New Corrib Bridge and Approach Roads

Applications by Galway County Council for a bridge order and a compulsory purchase order were confirmed on 2 November 1982. These decisions have enabled the local authority to develop the project. I understand that actual construction will commence this year and will take three to four years to complete.

Headford Road to Ballybaan

Detailed design documents are under examination in my Department. The time scale for construction will depend in the first instance on the success of the county council's efforts to acquire the land necessary for the scheme.

Ballybaan Road to Claregalway Road and Oranmore By-Pass

Design work is in progress at the local authority level.
