Vol. 339 No. 4

Written Answers. - House Grant Payments.

434.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of reconstruction grants approved for disabled persons by each local authority in 1981 and 1982.

Responsibility for the approval of grants under this scheme is a matter for the local authorities. Accordingly, the information requested is not available in my Department.

Questions Nos. 435 and 436 postponed.

437.

asked the Minister for the Environment if a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway who is prepared to build a fire proof partition in the attic between the garage and dwelling house.

The specification for grant aided new houses, as set out in the Department's outline specification, requires that where a garage is provided directly under the roof of a house, as in this case, the separating wall must be taken up to the plane of the roof and treated in the same way as a party wall to give a half-hour fire rating.

If the fire proof partition proposed by the applicant gives the required fire rating, it would be accepted. My Department's inspector will be in touch with the applicant about this matter.

438.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A £1,000 new house grant will be paid when the applicant submits information requested by my Department in November 1978 and an inspection establishes that the house is completed and occupied and all other conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with.

439.
