Vol. 341 No. 3

Order of Business .

: It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1 and 4 (resumed). By agreement, the proceedings on the Second Stage of the Social Welfare Bill, 1983, will, if not previously concluded, be brought to a conclusion at 7 p.m. today. Private Members' Business will be No. 21.

: I would like to raise on the Adjournment the question of the explusion from Chile of Father Forde and Father McGillicuddy and their urgent request for renewal of their visas.

: The Chair will communicate with Deputy Andrews.

: On the Order of Business, I had submitted a Private Notice Question to ask the Minister for Finance if he would state the reasons for devaluation. I understood from your office that, as the Minister is prepared to make a statement, it would be inappropriate to have it dealt with by Private Notice Question. I accept that. The Minister and I have been in consultation and the intention is, by arrangement with the Whips, to have a statement at 8.30 p.m. this evening.

: The question was disallowed on the grounds of lack of urgency.

: That was not the information given to me by your office.

: Is the Deputy sure of that?

: It was not mentioned to me.

: I wish to raise on the Adjournment the future of the five rural home economic colleges.

: The Chair will communicate with Deputy Yates.

: While I accept your ruling, a Cheann Comhairle, on the Private Notice Question, I am extremely disappointed with it. I wish to raise on the Adjournment the apparent anomaly in the further concession on school transport charges.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

: Could I ask the Tanáiste when is it intended to announce the decision taken by the Government not to go ahead with the £10 charge for school leavers applying to the civil service for employment.

: That does not arise on the Order of Business.

: I just want to know when the announcement will be made.

: It does not arise on the Order of Business.

: I wish to raise on the Adjournment the withdrawal of bus services from the Finglas area and the provision of an adequate insurance scheme for bus workers.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

: I wish to raise on the Adjournment the question of Ireland's participation in next year's Olympic games.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

: I wish to raise on the Adjournment the massive increases in the price of telephone calls as and from 21 March 1983 and in the rental from 1 April 1983 which, appropriately, is April Fool's Day.

: The Chair will communicate with Deputy Leyden.

: I wish to raise on the Adjournment the serious incident that took place in Greenore Port last Sunday when a German cargo ship was boarded by two members of a British naval patrol. They stayed on board until the ship reached port and refused to leave when told to do so by preventive officers.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

: I would like a reply to questions Nos. 504 and 505.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
