Vol. 342 No. 5

Written Answers. - Louth Housing Schemes.

625.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the unwarranted lengthy and costly delay in the commencing of the Louth County Council housing scheme at Clogherhead, County Louth; if he is aware of the very bad housing situation in the Clogherhead area; if he is aware that this situation is due to delays caused by his Department; and if final sanction will be given by the end of May or June, 1983.

Under existing procedures, local authorities may build houses in schemes of up to 60 or less without my prior sanction, subject to a number of requirements including local consultations with my Department's inspector, agreement to unit costs, and keeping within the available capital allocation.

I am not aware of any unwarranted delay in commencing the proposed housing scheme at Callystown, Clogherhead. Proposals for the first phase of this scheme, which will provide 34 houses, were cleared by my Department's inspector in discussions held locally with council officials in December last. I understand that the council is now preparing contract documents with a view to seeking tenders for this phase of the scheme.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will give urgent sanction to Drogheda Corporation for much needed old people's dwellings at Crawleys Court, Chord Rd. and at Chord Terrace, Drogheda, County Louth, both of which are before his Department; and when contract documents will be sanctioned.

Under existing procedures local authorities may build individual houses or houses in schemes of 60 houses or less without my prior sanction, subject to a number of requirements including local consultations with my Department's inspector, agreement to unit cost, and keeping within the available capital allocation.

In regard to the 11 house scheme at Crawley's Court, Chord Road, certain alterations in the proposed layout and plans for this scheme have been suggested to the corporation for its consideration and a response in this respect is awaited.

In regard to the seven house scheme at Chord Terrace, revised proposals for this scheme are awaited following recent discussions at local level with my Department's inspector.
